What
does the Youth Advisory
Committee do?
We determine what the most important issues are
for youth in Emmet County. For example: Substance
Abuse or Lack of things to do
Then every spring and fall we let non-profit organizations
in Emmet County know that grant applications are
available. We ask them to tell us about a program
or project that addresses issues facing youth.
When all the applications come back, we read them
and we interview the applicants. Then decide which
programs sound like they would benefit kids most,
and divide up the money we have to give out (easier
said than done!!).
Then we present what we've decided to adults on
the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation
Board of Trustees for approval. Then the organization
gets the money!!
We also try to do a community service project
to benefit our community.
