About the Foundation

The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation is a public charity and nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving and enriching life for everyone in Emmet County. We are here to help our donors make a positive impact on their community.

The mission of the foundation is to improve the quality of life for all people of Emmet County, by:

• Connecting donors with community needs;
• Building a permanent source of charitable funds to serve our area;
• Addressing a broad range of community issues through innovative grantmaking;
• Championing philanthropy and active citizenship

Our Community Foundation was started in late 1991 by local people who wanted to establish a permanent source of charitable capital for this area. Members of the first Board of Trustees were elected in 1992.

The Foundation is made up of many funds which are professionally invested and managed. Donations and planned gifts from individuals, families, organizations and businesses throughout the area are important factors in the Foundation’s growth.

Each year, income earned from the funds is used to make grants supporting arts and culture, educational enrichment, environmental awareness and preservation, community development, health and human services, youth programs and various civic improvement projects.

The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation offers everyone, from every walk of life, an opportunity to make a lasting gift to this area, while they achieve their personal charitable wishes. All gifts are welcome, regardless of their size; and all are tax-deductible. Donations to the Community Foundation may also qualify for a special Michigan Income Tax Credit.
