Charitable Gift Annuities
Would you be interested in helping to support
causes that are important to you while you receive
income for life? You may be surprised to learn
that you can actually increase your income by
making a gift to the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area
Community Foundation and retaining a life income
interest.
It is called a Charitable Gift Annuity. More
and more people are discovering the surprising
benefits of making charitable gifts in the form
of gift annuities. It's simple and it's safe.
How it Works
With a simple, one-page agreement, you can make
a gift to the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community
Foundation to help the causes that you hold dear
and receive guaranteed lifetime payments for yourself
or your designated beneficiary.
In return for a gift of a specified amount, we
will pay you, or whomever you designate, a stream
of payments for life. The payments are a fixed
amount and generally depend on the number (up
to two) and age(s) of the beneficiary(ies).
For instance, payments would be higher for an
annuity payable for one life to one person, aged
70, than to a couple, both 70, because of the
longer life expectancy of the couple. In addition
to the payments from a gift annuity, you get an
income tax deduction for a portion of the gift.
If you use long term appreciated property to
fund your gift annuity, another great benefit
is the opportunity to reduce capital gains tax.
And, the reduced amount of the tax that is payable
is spread over your life expectancy.

We would be pleased to provide a financial illustration
showing the benefits of a gift annuity for your
personal situation. Annuities benefit both the
donor and the community. As a service to the community,
the Community Foundation is making this program
available to other non-profit organizations. These
charities will now have an effective method of
building endowed funds under the administrative
umbrella of the Community Foundation.
